About Hurricane Guy®
Drew Herrington and his business partners have been looking for a way to help. In the sobering days after Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Herrington altered his business, New Line Environmental Systems, which is an industry leader in coastal restoration and erosion control, to include home construction. “How do I leverage and maintain the assets I have left?” Herrington asked himself, “And what needs can I fill?”
As New Line began re-constructing individual’s homes, the company realized that personal hurricane preparedness was no longer an abstract concept. It was going to become and integral part of the post-Katrina gulf world. “We kept hearing terms like evacuation plans and insurance,” says Glenn Landrum, Herrington’s business partner, “and we began to wonder if there was something we could offer?”
The New Line group evaluated individual’s Hurricane needs, and they quickly formed a spin-off company to assist families in their home preparation. Hurricane Guy, as the organization is now called, plans to offer hurricane services including everything from customized wood panels for window protection to refrigerator cleaning and electronic record storage. “We want to be your one stop shop for your pre- and post-hurricane needs, comments Landrum.”
“There was nobody available to help with all of the city’s hurricane needs,” says Herrington, “and a lot of individuals paid a significant price. Our job as your Hurricane Guy is to make sure that never happens again.”
